A Highland Summer at Glen Dessary

In summer the glen stretches out: eighteen hours of daylight, rivers warm enough to swim, and 15,000 acres of mountains, lochs and open hill with nobody else on them. Book Glen Dessary Lodge for your family or party of friends and the whole Estate is yours, with our chef looking after every meal and the days shaped entirely around you.

The Lodge

Exclusively yours, sleeping up to 21 between the Lodge and the Bothy

Fully Catered

A private chef for every meal, from picnic hampers to dinner

The Estate

15,000 private acres of glens, rivers, lochs and Munro country

Getting Here

An hour from Spean Bridge, near Fort William, at the head of Loch Arkaig

The Lodge, All Yours

A summer booking at Glen Dessary is exclusive use: no other guests, no shared spaces, just your party. Mornings begin with breakfast around one table, doors open to the hill. Evenings end with dinner from our private chef, a dram on the lawn as the light finally fades, and the log fire if the night turns cool. The Lodge and Bothy together sleep up to 21, which makes the Estate a natural home for big family gatherings, milestone birthdays and weeks away with friends.

Days That Last Forever

The long light means no two days need look the same. Take a guided walk into Munro country, cross the high ground by Argocat, cast a fly for wild brown trout on our own rivers and lochs, or simply swim, read and watch the deer move across the face of the hill. Clays, photo stalking and a whisky tasting by the fire round out the week, and walking the Estate unaccompanied is always free to Lodge guests.

A Summer Day in the Glen

No timetable, no other guests. A day here might run something like this.

Morning

A slow breakfast, then out: a guided walk towards the high tops for some, a first cast on the river for others, and the Argocat for anyone who wants the views without the climb.

Midday

A picnic hamper from the kitchen, eaten wherever the morning has taken you: a summit, a shieling, or the shore of the loch.

Afternoon

A swim in the river pools, a lazy hour with a book from the library, clays on the Estate, or a camera on the hill after the deer.

Evening

Dinner from the chef around one table, then out to the lawn: a dram, the afterglow on the hills and, on a clear night, more stars than you will ever see at home.

Summer Questions, Answered

The things guests ask us most about a summer stay.

When is the best time for a summer stay?

May to September. May and June bring the longest evenings and the freshest hills, July and August suit longer family gatherings, and September adds golden light with the first roars of the stag rut.

Do we have the Lodge to ourselves?

Yes. Summer bookings are exclusive use, with the Lodge's seven bedrooms and the nearby Bothy sleeping up to 21 guests between them, and the Estate's 15,000 acres all around you.

Are meals included?

Stays are fully catered. Our chef cooks breakfast and dinner each day using local Scottish produce, including the Estate's own venison, and packs picnic hampers for days out on the hill.

What is there to do on the Estate?

Guided walking, Argocat adventures, fly fishing, wild swimming, clay pigeon shooting, photo stalking, whisky tasting and stargazing, with Ben Nevis, Loch Ness and the Jacobite steam train within reach for a day trip. See all activities.

Are children and dogs welcome?

Both. The Estate is a wonderful place for children to roam, and dogs are welcome by arrangement, with Estate kennels available on request.

What about midges?

We will be honest: this is the west Highlands, and still, damp evenings in high summer can bring midges. Breezy days, the hill tops and time on the water are largely free of them, repellent deals with the rest, and May, June and September are usually the lightest months.

How do we book a summer week?
