Shared Summer Stays at Glen Dessary

Taking the whole Estate is not for everyone, and it is not the only way to come here. On our shared summer stays you book a place rather than the Lodge, and arrive to find a party already assembled: individuals, couples and pairs of friends who all wanted the same thing and did not have fourteen people to bring with them. Come on your own and the room is yours; come as a pair and the second place is charged at three quarters of the rate.

The days are arranged for you. The Argocat one day, clays and the hill the next, a guided walk into Munro country, a whisky tasting by the fire, and the Estate's 15,000 acres to wander when you would rather do nothing at all. Every meal is cooked by our chef and eaten around one table.

Season

May to September, when the glen has eighteen hours of daylight

Length of Stay

Three nights Sunday to Wednesday, or four nights Wednesday to Sunday. Longer stays of up to seven nights can be arranged

Party Size

A minimum of 10 and a maximum of 14 guests across the Lodge's seven bedrooms, whether that is guests in rooms of their own or couples sharing. Taken exclusively, the Lodge and the Bothy together sleep up to 21

Included

Accommodation, every meal, the full activity programme and a whisky tasting, in one price

Shared, Not Crowded

Fourteen guests in 15,000 acres is not a crowd. You will share the dining table, the drawing room and the fire in the Lodge, and you will almost never share a view. The Argocat goes out in groups of five, the clays and the hill run as two parties that swap at lunch, and the hill itself swallows everybody.

If you would rather have the place entirely to yourselves, that is a different booking and we do it too. A Highland Summer is exclusive use: no other guests, no shared spaces, and the whole Estate for your family or party alone.

The Table and the Fire

Every meal is cooked here. Breakfast before the day starts, a picnic hamper carried to wherever the morning takes you, afternoon tea when you come back in, and dinner around one long table with wine included.

Afterwards there is the drawing room, the log fire, a book from the library and a dram. One evening of the stay is given to a hosted tasting of Highland malts. The rest are whatever the party makes of them.

Your Stay, Day by Day

Two patterns run through the summer. Both can be extended to as much as seven nights, and the programme is adjusted to the weather on the day rather than held to for its own sake.

Three Nights, Sunday to Wednesday

  • Sunday arrive, settle in, meet the party and dinner at the Lodge
  • Monday the Argocat Adventure, in groups of up to five
  • Tuesday clays and a guided hike, two parties swapping over at lunch, then a whisky tasting in the evening
  • Wednesday breakfast and away

Four Nights, Wednesday to Sunday

  • Wednesday arrive, settle in and a first evening together
  • Thursday the Argocat Adventure, in groups of up to five
  • Friday clays and a guided hike in split parties, then a whisky tasting in the evening
  • Saturday a second guided walk, further into the Estate
  • Sunday breakfast and away
