Shared Stalking Trips

GOOD COMPANY ON THE OPEN HILL

Make new friends and enjoy the finest Scottish stalking

For guests who may not have a full party, Glen Dessary Lodge offers the opportunity to join a carefully curated sporting week alongside like-minded guests. These shared weeks are designed to bring together small parties and individuals with a common interest in traditional Highland sport, creating a convivial atmosphere while enjoying the estate and its surroundings.

We run these weeks in two seasons, stag weeks in September and hind weeks in November, and you simply choose the quarry and week that suit you. Each is a fixed six nights at the Lodge, with a private chef and a dram by the fire each evening. Come on your own or with a friend, and leave with new friendships forged across the glen.

How It Works

Each week is a fixed six nights, Sunday to Saturday. On the September stag weeks the rhythm is a day on the rifle and two more days on the hill with a stalking party, with a half day of guided fly fishing and free time to relax or explore. The November hind weeks are more relaxed, given over to the stalking, with a choice of day excursions for the other days. We rotate the parties across the Estate's 15,000 acres so the ground is never crowded, and evenings are spent together over dinner from our private chef.

Forge lasting memories and new friends around the evening fire.

The Lodge, Shared

Guests stay across the Lodge and the nearby Bothy overlooking the River Dessary, with hot baths waiting after a day on the hill and drinks around the log-burning fire. Our private chef prepares dinner each evening using the finest local produce, including the Estate's own venison, so the day's stories can be told properly, around one table. Everyone dines together whatever their room: guests in the Bothy share all the Lodge's communal areas and join for breakfast, lunch and dinner, with wine included at dinner.

The Stalking

On the September weeks your day on the rifle is the centrepiece. Glen Dessary offers some of the most exciting stalking in Scotland: steep high ground where it is not uncommon to take a stag at over 2,500 feet, climbing through mist that lifts to reveal the islands of Rhum, Skye and the Outer Hebrides. Each guest takes one stag during the week, weather and safe conditions permitting, accompanied throughout by an experienced, qualified stalker.

The November weeks turn to the hinds and the management cull. They are more relaxed: each guest who stalks takes at least one beast, further outings for more hinds are arranged at extra cost, and there is no charge to join a party on the hill. The days are spent working the hill with the stalker rather than seeking a single trophy.

The Fishing

A half day on the water is part of every stag week. Whether you have fished for years or have never picked up a rod, our ghillie will have you casting on the Estate's lochs and river, sharing the craft and helping to improve your line, whatever your experience. It is an unhurried, companionable few hours and a fine way to see another side of the glen. A second half-day can be added for anyone keen to make more of it.

Build Your Week

Rates are per room per night for the six-night stag week. Choose single occupancy for one guest in the room, or full occupancy when it is shared. All eleven rooms across the Lodge and Bothy can be booked.

Each guest shooting takes one stag for the week. Count only those who intend to take a beast. Anyone coming along to walk the hill or fish without shooting need not be counted.

Your stag can be prepared as a trophy to take home with you. Please note we are not able to post trophies.

£100 per trophy.
Wine with dinner comes as standard. Add a full drinks package and we will include it in your quote, or simply pay as you go for anything more.

A half day of guided fly fishing is included: a skilled ghillie will help improve your cast and share the craft, perfect for all skill levels. Your other days are free, to relax and recoup at the Lodge with a book from the library and the peace and the views, or to explore the wider area under your own steam.

Your other days are yours. Tick any excursions that appeal and we book and arrange them for you, subject to availability and weather.

Other things to do around the estate, tick any that appeal:

Evenings at the Lodge can take on a little extra. Tick anything that appeals: we gather interest across the party and, where enough of you would like it, we lay it on and share the cost. You are also welcome to treat the whole party to an experience, just let us know in the box below.
